In The Secret Life Of Machines, Tim Huchin liked to decorate his hand-made contraptions with fun details. Circuit boards would have little plastic people glued to them to make it look like a little city. Anybody curious enough to peek inside would get a delightful little surprise.
# Jason Scott is a digital archivist who likes to give his files silly names. He sometimes mentions how some old shareware programs will display a fun message if you run them more than 10 years in the future.
# The VLC video player’s icon wears a little Santa hat during December.

# This type of fun whimsey rewards curiosity.
# What if you put some ascii art in your website’s HTML? Or background details that animate when you click on them? A hidden picture or extra level in your game? Some funny filenames or extra bonus files for people who look inside a folder? Or add an Easter egg to your program?

# Easter Eggs are a very fitting way to describe this. You hide things and curious people get rewarded for looking. People who would click on things just to see what they do. This encourages them to explore even more. You turn curiosity and learning into a game.
# Curiosity leads to discovery and knowledge. But it takes patience. You can help sustain a person’s patience by rewarding their experimentation and curiosity along the way.
# On the old Macintosh I would sometimes find fun hidden goodies when I looked at a program or game with ResEdit. Extra unused sound files and pictures. Flash animations can be decompiled, so maybe I should hide extra goodies in my games? Every writer has a pile of half-written stories. Every artist has unfinished sketches lying around. These are still entertaining. They can be secret goodies.
# So far I have hidden secret images or stories inside of 3 projects. You can see them if open their SWF file in a Flash decompiler.
