The mushroom kingdom was in an uproar, but for Peach… it was a Tuesday.

After making the
Q-Bee sprite
, I had some more ideas I wanted to try. What if I set up the color gradiant maps before I start shading so I can see the results while I shade the picture? What if I anti-alias the outline before shading the picture? Will that create an automatic “painted” effect? (no) What if I use Photoshop to generate the palette using a “perceptual” color bias to avoid adding multiple similar-looking colors? (close but not perfect) What if I export the sprite in pieces to Pixelover, remove unwanted colors from the palette, and dither each part separately with different settings? (yes this avoids adding colors where you don’t want them) Would that avoid needing to make manual adjustments afterwards? (not entirely) What if I export the outline from Photoshop separately to avoid dithering it? (it still needed manual adjustments)

Welp, here’s a (partial) time-lapse video of me trying all of these things. (60x normal speed. 1 second = 1 minute) This sprite took about 5 hours to make and has 31 colors.
