Someone is about to get kidnapped.

Why does the princess keep disappearing? It’s a mystery.

Round objects continue to be a source of endless inspiration for me.

I also found this amazing facial expression. No idea who this is.
#
I did my best to re-create it, but it’s very hard to pull off at small sizes.
#
Anyway I followed my usual process of turning the lines into a sprite.

At first I tried crunching down the palette in PixelOver.

before
after

But I wasn’t in the mood for muted colors. Besides I think smaller pictures look better without dithering.
#
Then I remembered this
old picture
. It came out brilliantly! How do I do that again? I think it was back when was taking direct control of the colors in Photoshop by posterizing the shading and using gradient maps.

… so that’s what I did, along with the usual manual adjustments afterwards. I always need to do that because Photoshop automatically adds diffusion dithering to every brush stroke, which makes all the shading edges look jagged and uneven. Gradient maps definitely make the colors a lot more vibrant and helps avoid my tendency to shade pictures until they’re too dark.
