Should I Have A Blog?

Maybe I Shouldn’t

My website is mainly intended to be an archive of all the stuff I create, all in one convenient place. Having an opinion is not exactly an accomplishment. But whenever I visit other people’s websites I do enjoy reading through their blogs, so why not add one?

But I think it should be in its own section, separate from my art and games.

search-results-with-opinionsAfter all it would be pretty annoying to search for boobs and see random non-boobs polluting the results like annoying advertisements. There’s no shortage of opinions on the internet.

Then again, maybe the website’s search engine should always search everything. Otherwise it would just seem unreliable. The whole point of searching is that you don’t know where to find something, so hiding things based on where they are would be confusing.

I aside from that, I also feel like it’s a courtesy for me to separate my opinions from my art. Sure art can have meaning, but my own pictures aren’t usually about that. They’re just shameless fun. My opinions don’t really factor into my art, so my opinions don’t belong in my art gallery. Besides, that stuff can make things uncomfortable for an audience. I myself prefer to enjoy a painting without worrying what Picaso thinks of the economy or whether he’s secretly donating his profits to Hitler.

And since there’s no money involved here, you don’t need to worry about that second thing. Merely looking at a picture does not “support” an artist or anything they’re part of. Only paying them does that. You don’t have to agree with me if you just want to look at some boobs I drew.

Maybe I Should

It turns out that I enjoy seeing an artist’s opinions and viewpoints. It shows there’s an actual person behind the pixels. It humanizes them.

artist-opinions

If an artist did nothing except draw pictures and never express themselves, that gives the impression that what they draw is all they think about, which would be pretty weird. But if you’re the audience it’s very hard to avoid that assumption if you never see any other side of the person.
